Olga Dementyeva leads a difficult life in a small town: she is raising three children and is married to Yaroslav, though their relationship lost its warmth long ago. Every day is a succession of exhausting responsibilities, and work drains her remaining strength. One day, while returning home after an especially grueling shift, Olga becomes the victim of a brutal attack. She is found unconscious in a secluded park. The investigation into this disturbing incident is assigned to investigator Andrei Govorov. He has recently returned to his hometown.
Andrei could never have imagined that the victim of the attack was the very girl who had once occupied all his thoughts and his heart. Meeting Olga awakens a flood of memories and unspoken feelings within him. At the same time, Olga’s past unexpectedly bursts back into her life: her former husband, Ushakov, is released from prison. His appearance adds new mysteries to an already tangled story.
