The Soviet army is driving the enemy from its territories, but German sabotage units continue to operate behind the lines. One such unit, led by Colonel Neuber, attacks a car carrying a representative of the General Staff of the Red Army and steals important documents. But when they attempt to cross the front line, Neuber is captured. Before that, he manages to hide the documents, and now the Germans are preparing an operation to rescue Neuber from captivity. Officers of the Soviet army counterintelligence agency «Smersh» are tasked with thwarting the fascists’ plans.
