A series of mysterious murders in Moscow leads law enforcement to believe that a new maniac has appeared in the city. He has left letters on the foreheads of all his victims. However, the initial investigative actions reveal no connection between the murdered men, making it more difficult to catch the maniac. Yet both Svetlana and investigator Toropov are convinced that the victims were by no means chosen at random, which means there may soon be even more of them.
The only lead is a phone conversation of one of the murdered men, which he apparently tried to keep secret. Having tracked down the subscriber, the police detain him. Vadim notices a strange imprint, which turns out to be a trace left by an unusual and very expensive coin. This clue leads our detectives to a new tangle of mysteries that is not so easy to unravel. Especially since it seems that the cunning criminal is playing a game with them.
