This is a heavy yet vivid part of history, which will always stir people's minds and, consequently, find reflection in cinema. In this selection, we have tried to compile a list of top Russian war films, covering the Civil War, the 1941-1945 war, the battles in Afghanistan, as well as battles from past centuries. Paintings about the feats of ordinary soldiers and distinguished generals, stories about scouts are dedicated to the memory of those who defended the Motherland, who did not return from the bloody fields. The events of the October Revolution and the Civil War are reflected in the films "The Admiral" and "Sunstroke," while the Great Patriotic War is depicted in the movies "In June 1941," "The Dawns Here Are Quiet," and "Night Swallows." The film «9th Company» is dedicated to Afghan War veterans, while the screen adaptation of Gogol's «Taras Bulba», sharing the same title, tells of the distant battles of the Cossacks of the Zaporozhian Sich.
