Before becoming a successful thief-in-law, Yuri Alexeyev, nicknamed the Baron, lived a difficult life full of trials and losses. His family was destroyed by NKVD manipulations: his father died in prison, while his mother was killed by Chekists who wanted to cover their tracks. The boy was left with his grandmother, who did not survive the blockade. Yurik fought in a partisan unit, made it to the front, and later ended up in prison on false charges. To survive behind bars, Alexeyev had to earn a reputation among the other inmates and eventually become a true criminal authority. Many years later, on his way from Leningrad to Moscow, the Baron recalls his life journey, reflecting on the events and people who influenced him.
