The protagonist of this story, former military doctor Ilya Alyokhin, helped bring hundreds of Serbian and Albanian children into the world during the war in Kosovo. Women in labor called him a doctor sent by God and considered him the godfather of their daughters and sons.
The war is over, but Alyokhin continues his mission in peacetime. His colleagues dream of receiving the Nobel Prize and organize an unprecedented scientific and medical experiment. They want to deliver a baby from a woman who is in a coma and prove to the whole world that this is a possible practice. Alyokhin accepts his colleagues’ invitation, but fame, recognition, and especially money are the least of his concerns. The most important thing for him is the child he will help bring into the world.
