A new employee, Leonid Samoylov, joins the criminal investigation department: an honest, principled idealistic trainee assigned to operational work by the Komsomol committee. Shmakov, the head of the criminal investigation department, personally mentors the newcomer, who soon proves worthy of the trust placed in him. Through trial and error, Samoylov soon manages to pick up the trail of the Devil and his gang. But the bandits are not asleep either, and they skillfully persuade one of Leonid’s comrades to betray him. Now the detectives must not only solve the complicated case, but also identify the traitor in their own ranks.
