The story begins with the return of the young Dr. Watson to London from Afghanistan, where he served in the British Army. With a modest budget, he follows a friend’s advice and rents a room from an elderly lady, Mrs. Hudson, on Baker Street. The new tenant’s neighbor turns out to be the eccentric and mysterious Mr. Sherlock Holmes. Strange visitors lead Watson to suspect him of ties to the criminal underworld. However, it soon becomes clear that Holmes is a brilliant private detective with no equal in solving crimes.
