The two-part television film "Northern Lights: When the Dead Return", part of the adventure series about writer and detective Agata Sever, tells the story of a woman’s emotional crisis, which she decides to overcome on the shores of Lake Ladoga. As usual, Agata finds herself at the very center of tragic events, where mysticism coexists with realism. A film crew arrives on the island to shoot a spectacular thriller. An atmosphere of impending tragedy fills the air with the filmmakers’ arrival, as there is no shortage of disagreements and even quarrels among them. Several days after filming begins, lightning strikes a tree during the shooting of a tragic scene, which the superstitious locals unequivocally interpret as a sign of approaching death. Soon after this incident, a man’s body bearing stab wounds is found on the island. The grim discovery triggers a heart attack in Elena, a fan of Agata Sever’s work, making the new case personal for the writer as well. Unlike the local residents, who, with pale lips, tell tales of restless dead, the pragmatic detective is certain that the murderer is flesh and blood, and therefore she will be able to find him.
